Summary

Damned follows a small-town detective named Adrian Foxx, a man built like a machine. Eats the same meals, works the same hours, and does the same things every day. Some imagine him to be depressed; a recluse simply going through the motions. Those closer may imagine him to be happy; a comfort found in his routine. The truth… is unknown to even Adrian himself.

As a series of truly unexplainable deaths rips through the town of Elsi, Adrian Foxx follows a trail that seems to lead him in circles. A staunch critic of anything supernatural, Adrian disregards the conclusions his impromptu partner, Mateo Miller, offers him. However, as the truth is forced into his mind and Adrian is thrown far out of his depth, he must choose the sacrifices he is willing to make, and discover the true nature of the plain life he has lived.

Sequels

Damned has been conceptualized as a 3-part story from practically the beginning. The first book can stand alone, but would be essentially incomplete without its follow-ups. The two sequels follow 2 separate timelines, each based on a different sacrifice Adrian could choose to make at the end of the book. One selfless, one selfish.

The first sequel (Currently called Damned: One More Day) follows an adult Mateo hunting demonic presences left on Earth after Adrian’s sacrifice. He works under the government for this work, being the only known man to access some kind of holy magical power. This power is implied in Damned, but expanded on greatly here. At the same time, he juggles taking care of an adopted daughter and his found family in the form of Adrian’s old lover Dixie Hanes. While this sequel would focus on Mateo and the beginnings of the magic side of the world, it would also contain the true finale to Adrian’s character long after his death.

The other sequel (Currently called Damned: One Last Day) follows a group of survivors just a handful of months after Damned ends in a timeline where the demons are running rampant on Earth, threatening humanity with extinction. These survivors meet the ultimate powers of this world: The Angels. However, these “angels” are in fact just humans who have mastered the magic of this world. They reveal that the survivors have been chosen to become new angels, and begin training to help deal with the new demonic threat. A story of purpose, betrayal, heartbreak, and what it means to be human.
